May 24 (Renewables Now) – Canadian independent power producer (IPP) BluEarth Renewables Inc said today it has acquired a 1-GW wind and solar development project in Colorado from developer NorthRenew Energy LLC.

The Eads Wind and Solar Project will be implemented in multiple phases on about 150,000 acres of private land in Kiowa and Cheyenne Counties to support Colorado’s 2030 emissions reduction strategy and the decarbonisation of the state’s power grid.

The acquired scheme complements BluEarth’s existing portfolio of over 1 GW of advanced development utility-scale wind projects in Canada and the US and over 3 GW of early-stage development projects.

“We look forward to entering the Colorado market with this project, which fits very well with our full life-cycle approach, taking projects from development to operations,” said BluEarth’s chief executive and president Grant Arnold.

This is the second deal between the two companies this year. In February, BluEarth bought the 247-MW Buffalo Branch wind project in Dade County, Missouri from NorthRenew Energy.
