BayWa r.e. acquires solar-plus-storage project in UK

April 7 (Renewables Now) – German renewables company BayWa r.e. AG has acquired the rights to the Driffield project near Kingston-upon-Hull in Yorkshire, England, where it will install a 45-MWp solar farm with 30 MW of co-located battery storage.

The project was acquired from UK-based independent renewables developer Harmony Energy, Baywa r.e. announced today without giving other details on the transaction.

Driffield is a fully consented project, with the construction slated to commence at the end of 2022. BayWa r.e. expects to wrap up works in early-mid 2023, it said.

The Driffield plant’s output is estimated at around 45 GWh per year. The solar farm and the battery will share the same grid connection, which will make the site one of UK’s first PV-plus-storage co-locations, according to BayWa r.e.

The latest transaction follows BayWa r.e.’s acquisition of the Scurf Dyke co-located storage project near Hull, which will integrate a 50-MW battery with a 80-MWp solar farm.

In more storage news from BayWa r.e., the company signed a new operations and maintenance contracts for two battery sites in Dorset in partnership with a firm called Ingenious.
