August 5 (Renewables Now) – Independent power producer Amp Energy India has entered into an off-take contract with Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMSL) for a portion of a 600-MW floating solar plant in Madhya Pradesh.
The two parties have sealed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 100 MW/140 MWp of capacity from that particular project on the Omkareshwar Reservoir.
RUMSL, which is a joint venture between Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd, has already identified space for the project and will seek to lease it from NHDC. The wider solar park will be delivered in two phases of 300 MW each and will be supported by a fixed tariff for 25 years.
“While solar energy is an important source of renewable power, deployment of solar projects requires large contiguous parcels of land, which is not always available. Floating solar projects can be a great alternative to this and help mitigate developmental risks,” commented Pinaki Bhattacharyya, managing director and CEO of Amp Energy India.
