November 14 (Renewables Now) – Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) has committed to buying electricity from 210 MW of solar projects in Indonesia to power its local operations in the Southeast Asian country.
The US e-commerce giant has sealed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the procurement with Indonesian utility PT PLN, the latter said on Monday. According to it, the deal is the first power off-take agreement with a corporate party in Indonesia.

Under the PPA, Amazon will buy the output of four photovoltaic (PV) parks that PLN will install in the islands of Bali and Java and connect them to the Java-Madura-Bali grid. Details about the construction timeline were not available.
PLN noted that the projects will back Indonesia’s goal for a 23% renewables share by 2025. The utility plans to promote corporate renewable energy procurement in the country by introducing similar contracts to other interested companies, it noted.
Amazon’s renewable energy procurement places the online retailer and web services provider on a path to power 100% of its operations with renewables by 2025. The company, which also has a target of reaching net-zero carbon by 2040, is currently the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy with contracts for more than 1.3 GW of capacity globally.
