April 13 (Renewables Now) – All 17 projects that were successful in the ScotWind offshore wind leasing round have now signed their option agreements and can proceed to development, Crown Estate Scotland said today.

The news follows announcements by individual winners that they have sealed their agreements. They will receive full seabed leases after securing needed consents, grid connections and financing.

The outcome of the leasing round was announced in January, with the 17 successful applications representing about 24.8 GW of capacity.

To stimulate supply chain investment, applications had to include supply chain commitments, which indicate an investment of GBP 1 billion in Scotland per GW. Crown Estate Scotland said it will publish summaries of initial commitments in the coming weeks.

“Seventeen agreements are now in place to help deliver these offshore wind projects that are central to Scotland’s efforts to tackle the climate emergency, secure the UK’s energy supply, and generate billions of pounds of investment in Scotland,” said Colin Maciver, head of offshore wind development for Crown Estate Scotland.

There is an opportunity for Clearing applications, where qualified applicants outcompeted for their chosen site can revise their bid for an available alternative location. Crown Estate Scotland said that the deadline for such applications will be confirmed soon and that any resulting option agreements will be signed later this year.
