All photovoltaic (PV) modules have been installed at the Western Downs Green Power Hub in Queensland’s Western Downs region, a 400-MW solar farm that is said to be Australia’s largest.

The final testing and commissioning phase will now start to bring the project to full capacity, according to an announcement by the Queensland government this week.

The owner of the project is French developer Neoen SA (EPA:NEOEN), which has a deal with CleanCo for Queensland’s publicly-owned clean energy company to offtake 80% of the generation.

Featuring more than 1 million panels, the solar park is already delivering more than 350 MW to the Queensland SuperGrid via a new line built by Powerlink.

The solar farm supports the target of 70% renewable energy by 2032 in the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.

“The renewable energy generated by the Western Downs Green Power Hub will supply some of CleanCo’s biggest customers including Coles and BHP,” said CleanCo chief executive Tom Metcalfe. Other CleanCo customers that will receive energy from the project include retailer Wesfarmers, Westfield Shopping Centres, The Ville and Cairns Regional Council.
