July 28 (Renewables Now) – German renewables developer ABO Wind AG (ETR:AB9) said today it has sold the 514.6-MW Buffalo Plains wind project in Canada to an unnamed investor.
The project has reached the ready-to-build status after the Alberta Utility Commission issued permits for the installation of 83 Siemens Gamesa turbines each of 6.2 MW and their connection to the grid.
To be set up on 17,500 acres (7,082 hectares) of privately owned farmland in Alberta, the wind park will generate 1,500 GWh of electricity per year which is enough to power the equivalent of 240,000 Alberta homes. The facility will save more than 795,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.
“We look forward to supporting the investor bring this project to fruition. ABO Wind is working on numerous other promising projects in Alberta, Atlantic Canada and other provinces with a dedicated and growing Canadian based staff in Calgary and Halifax,” said ABO Wind’s director Canada Stefan Groos.
