TESCanada H2 Inc, a unit of Europe-based green energy company Tree Energy Solutions (TES), on Friday presented an ambitious green hydrogen project in the Canadian province of Quebec, called Projet Mauricie and involving 1 GW of renewables capacity.
The initiative, located in the Vallee de la transition energetique, in the Mauricie region, will represent a CAD-4-billion (USD 2.9bn/EUR 2.7bn) investment in the construction of electrolysis and renewable energy facilities.

The project is targeted to be commissioned in 2028 and to produce 70,000 tonnes of green hydrogen entirely for local use in Quebec. About one third of the output will be set aside for decarbonising long-haul transport, with the balance to be used to produce electric renewable natural gas (e-NG) for hard-to-abate industries.
The project will have a 1-GW behind-the-metre wind and solar farm to provide most of its energy needs.
According to the company, this is among the largest decarbonisation projects announced in Quebec so far.
“By combining the reduction of CO2 emissions, the creation of quality jobs along with regional economic dynamism, this project illustrates the immense potential of green energy for our collective future,” said Steven Guilbeault, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change.
TES Canada will start a consultation process with open-house community information sessions later in November.
