September 2 (Renewables Now) – Taiyo Power and Storage, a joint venture between Kajima and Low Carbon Alliance, has unveiled plans for a solar park of up to 44 MW in the Afon Llan Valley, in South Wales.

The project is called Parc Solar Caenewydd and is expected to generate energy corresponding to the needs of 11,500 homes in the Swansea area.

The project includes biodiversity enhancements, continued food production and the opportunity for sheep grazing.

There will be initial consultation on the proposal with local residents next week.

As a Development of National Significance for Wales, the project will be determined by the Welsh minister through the Planning Inspectorate for Wales. After public engagement, the developer will make an application to the Planning Inspectorate for Wales alongside consultation with the Swansea planning authority.

Taiyo, set up in 2021, says it is progressing plans for a number of solar and battery sites in the UK.
