August 8 (Renewables Now) – Danish offshore wind developer Ørsted (CPH:ORSTED) on Monday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C) to collaborate on offshore wind projects.

PTSC M&C is a turn-key contractor serving the upstream, downstream and renewables energy sectors. The partnership with it is designed to deliver offshore substations for the offshore wind projects planned in Vietnam by Ørsted and Vietnamese industrial conglomerate T&T Group, which signed a MoU last year. Ørsted and T&T aim to deliver one project in the central south and one in the north by 2030.

The collaboration with PTSC M&C could also support Ørsted’s global offshore wind pipeline.

The MoU was signed on Friday at PTSC M&C’s manufacturing facility in Ba Rịa–Vung Tau.

“Vietnam has some of the best conditions in Asia for offshore wind power, many outstanding engineering companies and a highly skilled workforce,” Sebastian Hald Buhl, country manager of Ørsted Vietnam, said, adding that the agreement demonstrates the company’s ambitions to collaborate with local suppliers to kick-start Vietnam’s offshore wind sector.

PTSC M&C’s managing director Dong Xuan Thang said the MoU will help PTSC M&C to develop its capacities for the offshore wind market which is growing in Asia.
