August 5 (Renewables Now) – Polish construction group Budimex SA (WSE:BDX), part of Spain’s Ferrovial (BME:FER), said Thursday it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with EDF Renewables to partner on investing in offshore wind in Poland on a 50/50 basis.
The companies target the second phase of offshore development in the country, as part of which 11 sites have been made available for the deployment of offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea with the potential to deliver 11 GW of capacity.
The renewables business of France’s EDF (EPA:EDF) has submitted several seabed permit applications for new offshore wind areas. According to the announcement, Budimex and EDF Renewables are teaming up to leverage their respective strengths and obtain location permits under the applications lodged by EDF Renewables.
Artur Popko, president of the Budimex Group, said that there is enormous potential in the energy transition and the company wants to be an active player in the renewable energy market. Popko added that Budimex aims to be energy self-sufficient by 2026 and that all energy can come from renewable sources.
