May 30 (Renewables Now) – China’s first deep-sea floating wind turbine has been towed from Maoming to the Luodousha sea area in Guangdong province, according to information released by the official state press agency Xinhua.
The floating platform hosts a 6.2-MW typhoon-resistant wind power generating unit, which is to be tested in Luodousha waters. The average depth of the sea area there amounts to 65 metres.
The turbine was made by China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s (CSSC) subsidiary Haizhuang Windpower Co Ltd. It has a 72-metre high tower and a 152-metre rotor diameter, local media report.
